Prelude: O God, My Faithful God
Fritsch/Burkhardt
Welcome & Call to Worship
[Isaiah 55:10-12]
The rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
They make it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater.
So shall God’s word be that goes out from his mouth; it shall not return empty, but it shall accomplish what he purposes.
We shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills shall burst into song.
Let us worship the LORD!
Christ Is the World’s Light
Green/Paris Antiphoner
Christ is the world’s light, Christ and none other;
Born in our darkness, he became our brother–
If we have seen him, we have seen the Father:
Glory to God on high!
Christ is the world’s peace, Christ and none other;
No one can serve him, and despise another.
Who else unites us, one in God the Father?
Glory to God on high!
Christ is the world’s life, Christ and none other;
Sold once for silver, murdered here, our brother–
He, who redeems us, reigns with God the Father:
Glory to God on high!
Give God the glory, God and none other;
Give God the glory, Spirit, Son, and Father;
Give God the glory, God-with-us our brother:
Glory to God on high!
Confession
God who is near, we return to you for your mercy and guidance. As you send rain to water the earth and words to accomplish your purposes, you send us out in joy and peace. Forgive us when we hold onto grievances or divisions and struggle to make peace with each other. Forgive us when we do not recognize the places you could use us to further peace in the world around us. Help us trust your purposes, and give us courage to reach out with joy and curiosity. Amen.

There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy (Hymn 298)
Faber/NETTLETON
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in God’s justice, which is more than liberty.
There is no place where earth’s sorrows are more felt than up in heaven;
There is no place where earth’s failings have such kindly judgment given.
For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind;
And the heart of the eternal is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more faithful, we would gladly trust God’s Word;
And our lives reflect thanksgiving for the goodness of our Lord.
Forgiveness in Jesus Christ
Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.
Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Comfort, Comfort You My People (Hymn 3)
Genevan Psalter/Olearius
Comfort, comfort you my people, tell of peace, thus says our God;
Comfort those who sit in darkness bowed beneath oppression’s load.
Speak you to Jerusalem of the peace that waits for them;
Tell them that their sins I cover, and their warfare now is over.
For the herald’s voice is calling in the desert far and near,
Bidding us to make repentance since the kingdom now is here,
O that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God a way;
Let the valleys rise in meeting and the hills bow down in greeting.
Make you straight what long was crooked, make the rougher places plain;
Let your hearts be true and humble, as befits God’s holy reign.
For the glory of the Lord now o’er earth is shed abroad;
And all flesh shall see the token that God’s word is never broken.

Response: I’ve Got Peace Like a River (Hymn 368)
African-American spiritual
I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river,
I’ve got peace like a river in-a my soul.
I’ve got joy like a fountain, I’ve got joy like a fountain,
I’ve got joy like a fountain in-a my soul.
I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean,
I’ve got love like an ocean in-a my soul.
Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending Song: The Trees of the Field
Rubin/Dauermann
You shall go out with joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and the hills will break forth before you;
there’ll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field
will clap, will clap their hands.
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands;
the trees of the field will clap their hands;
the trees of the field will clap their hands
while you go out with joy.
