Welcome & Call to Worship
[Psalm 37]
Do not fret because of the wicked; do not be envious of wrongdoers,
for they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Let us worship the LORD!
Many and Great (Hymn 271)
Dakota hymn/Native American melody (Dakota)
Many and great, O God, are Thy things, Maker of earth and sky;
Thy hands have set the heavens with stars,
Thy fingers spread the mountains and plains.
Lo, at Thy word the waters were formed; deep seas obey Thy voice.
Grant unto us communion with Thee, Thou star-abiding One;
Come unto us and dwell with us: with Thee are found the gifts of life.
Bless us with life that has no end, eternal life with Thee.
Confession
Triune God, we want more of the connectedness that the disciples witnessed between Jesus and the Father. We are often too hurried, tired, or stressed to know how to pray. Forgive us when we see prayer only as a means to an end, rather than an opportunity to be with you. Forgive us when we think we need to change your mind. Help us bring our whole selves to you and wait in trust. Thank you for loving us and listening to us. Amen.

Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive (Hymn 347)
Herklots/Supplement to Kentucky Harmony
“Forgive our sins as we forgive,” you taught us, Lord, to pray,
But you alone can grant us grace to live the words we say.
How can Your pardon reach and bless the unforgiving heart
That broods on wrongs and will not let old bitterness depart?
In blazing light Your cross reveals the truth we dimly knew:
What trivial debts are owed to us, how great our debt to You!
Lord, cleanse the depths within our souls and bid resentment cease.
Then, bound to all in bonds of love, our lives will spread your peace.
Forgiveness in Jesus Christ
Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

Our Father (Hymn 589)
West Indian folk melody
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed-a be Thy name
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, hallowed-a be Thy name.
On earth as it is in heaven, hallowed-a be Thy name.
Give us this day our daily bread, hallowed-a be Thy name.
And forgive us all our debts, hallowed-a be Thy name.
As we forgive our debtors, hallowed-a be Thy name.
And lead us not into temptation. Hallowed-a be Thy name.
But deliver us from evil, hallowed-a be Thy name.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Hallowed-a be Thy name.
Forever and ever. Amen. Hallowed-a be Thy name.
Homily: Teach us to Pray Like…
Scott Starbuck
Focus: Western culture has tended to be an extroverted culture and a “can-do” culture. Prayer too easily became an attempt to change God and aggrandize ourselves instead of what it was meant to be – an interior practice to change the one who is praying, which will always happen if we stand calmly before this uncanny and utterly safe Presence, allowing the Divine Gaze to invade and heal our unconscious, the place where 95 percent of our motivations and reactions come from. –Richard Rohr

Sending Song: Give to the Winds Your Fears
Gerhardt/Elvey
Give to the winds your fears, in hope be undismayed;
God hears your sighs and counts your tears, God shall lift up your head;
Through waves and clouds and storms God gently clears the way;
Wait patiently so shall this night soon end in joyous day.
Far, far above your thought God’s counsel shall appear,
When fully God the work has wrought that caused your needless fear.
Leave to God’s sovereign will to choose and to command:
With wonder filled you then shall own how wise, how strong God’s hand.
On God the Lord rely, and safe shall you go on,
Fix on God’s work your steadfast eye, so shall your work be done.
Let us in life, in death, God’s steadfast truth declare,
And publish with our final breath God’s love and guardian care.
