Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 118]

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD.

Save us, we beseech you, O LORD, give us success!

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever.

Let us worship the LORD!

Ride On! Ride On in Majesty!

Milman/TRURO

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry;
O Savior meek, pursue Thy road with palms and scattered garments strowed.

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die:
O Christ, Thy triumphs now begin o’er captive death and conquered sin.

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! The winged squadrons of the sky
Look down with sad and wondering eyes to see the approaching sacrifice.

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die;
Bow Thy meek head to mortal pain, then take, O God, Thy power, and reign.

Confession

God of heaven and earth, we give you thanks for sending Jesus Christ as our teacher. We are eager to praise you when you seem to be doing what we hope for. Yet, your teaching is often mixed with suffering. Forgive us when we do not listen or respond to your Word as soon as the way becomes difficult. Forgive us for the times we have denied you and denied our calling to serve one another. Thank you for continuing to act in love even when we act in fear, jealousy, or anger. Heal our ways, and lead us to your vision of whole-hearted self-giving. Amen.

Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley (Hymn 80)

American Spiritual

Jesus walked this lonesome valley, He had to walk it by Himself;
O, nobody else could walk it for Him, He had to walk it by Himself.

You must go and stand your trial, You have to stand it by yourself;
O, nobody else can stand it for you, You have to stand it by yourself.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

Hosanna, Loud Hosanna! (Hymn 89)

Gesangbuch der Herzogl/Threlfall

Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang;
Through pillared court and temple the joyful anthem rang;
To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to His breast,
The children sang their praises, the simplest and the best.

From Olivet they followed ‘mid an exultant crowd,
The victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud;
The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state,
Nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait.

“Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing,
For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King.
O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice,
And in His blissful presence eternally rejoice.

Response: What Wondrous Love Is This (Hymn 85)

American Folk Hymn

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the heavy cross for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the heavy cross for my soul!

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM,
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing!

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on,
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be,
And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And through eternity I’ll sing on!

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
