Prelude: Prelude Op. 32, No. 5

Rachmaninoff

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 4]

There are many who say, “O that we might see some good!

Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord!”

Answer us when we call, O God of our right! You gave us room when we were in distress.

Know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself; the Lord hears when we call to him.

We will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make us lie down in safety.

Let us worship the LORD!

O Sing to the Lord (Hymn 472)

Brazilian folk song

O sing to the Lord; O sing God a new song. (repeat twice)
O sing to our God; O sing to our God.

By his holy power our God has done wonders. (repeat twice)
O sing to our God; O sing to our God.

So dance for our God and blow all the trumpets. (repeat twice)
And sing to our God; and sing to our God.

Confession

God of expansive love, you call us to new directions, new places and new people. However, dealing with unknowns can feel overwhelming. Like Jonah, we are afraid of what could happen if we fail and even perhaps what could happen if we succeed. Forgive us when we turn and run away from your calling. Forgive us when we doubt that you have equipped us for your work. Help us trust and rely on your presence as we share your teaching. Amen.

Silence

Be Not Afraid

Taizé Community/Berthier

Be not afraid; sing out for joy! Christ is risen, alleluia!
Be not afraid; sing out for joy! Christ is risen, alleluia!

(repeat)

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

Here I Am Lord (Hymn 525)

Schutte

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry,
All who dwell in deepest sin my hand will save.
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Refrain:
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them, my hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send? (refrain)

Scripture Readings

Jay Stafstrom

Old Testament: Jonah 1:1–3

New Testament: Matthew 28:16-20

Sermon: Don't know when I'll be back again

Focus: Christ sends us into the entire wide and unknown world!

Response: O Day of Peace (Hymn 450)

Parry/Daw

O day of peace that dimly shines through all our hopes and prayers and dreams,
Guide us to justice, truth, and love, delivered from our selfish schemes.
May swords of hate fall from our hands, our hearts from envy find release,
Till by God’s grace our warring world shall see Christ’s promised reign of peace.

Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, nor shall the fierce devour the small;
As beasts and cattle calmly graze, a little child shall lead them all.
Then enemies shall learn to love, all creatures find their true accord;
The hope of peace shall be fulfilled, for all the earth shall know the Lord.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
