Call to Worship
[Psalm 116:12-13]
What shall we offer for all God’s goodness to us?
Let us lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
We Gather Together
Valerius/Cory/Nerder-landtsch Gendenck-Clanck
We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to his name; he forgets not his own.
We worship you, God of our fathers and mothers;
Through trial and tempest our guide you have been.
When perils o’ertake us, you will not forsake us,
And with your help, O Lord, our struggles we win.
With voices united our praises we offer
And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
With you, Lord, beside us, your strong arm will guide us.
To you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!
Confession
[1 Corinthians 11:28-29]
The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Corinth: Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves. With confidence in God’s abundant mercy, let us examine ourselves and confess our sin.
Eternal God, whose covenant with us is never broken, we confess that we fail to fulfill your will. Though you have bound yourself to us, we will not bind ourselves to you. In Jesus Christ you serve us freely, but we refuse your love and withhold ourselves from others. We do not love you fully or love one another as you command. In your mercy, forgive and cleanse us. Lead us once again to your table and unite us to Christ, who is the bread of life and the vine from which we grow in grace. Amen.

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (Hymn 101)
Watts/Mason
When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.
Forgiveness in Jesus Christ
Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

Ah, Holy Jesus (Hymn 93)
Heermann/Crüger
For me, dear Jesus, was Your incarnation,
Your mortal sorrow, and Your life’s oblation,
Your death of anguish and Your bitter passion,
For my salvation.
Therefore, dear Jesus, since I cannot pay You,
I do adore You, and will ever praise You,
Think on Your pity and Your love unswerving,
Not my deserving.
Homily: This Is How You Remember Me

Focus: At the table, the church proclaims not sentiment but the Lord’s death, learning that remembrance means participation in a life given for others.

Go to Dark Gethsemane (Hymn 97)
Montgomery/Redhead
Go to dark Gethsemane, all who feel the tempter’s power;
Your Redeemer’s conflict see, watch with Him one bitter hour;
Turn not from His griefs away, learn from Jesus Christ to pray.
