Prelude: How Fair and How Pleasant Art Thou, op. 18

Welcome & Call to Worship
[Psalm 106]
Who can utter the mighty doings of the LORD, or declare all his praise?
Both we and our ancestors have sinned; yet he saved them for his name’s sake.
Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes, and were brought low through their iniquity.
Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry.
For their sake he remembered his covenant, and showed compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.
Let us worship the LORD!
Praise, My Soul, the God of Heaven (Hymn 479)
Lyte
Praise, my soul, the God of heaven, glad of heart your carols raise;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who, like me should sing God’s praise?
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the Maker all your days!
Praise God for the grace and favor shown our forebears in distress;
God is still the same forever, slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Sing our Maker’s faithfulness!
Like a loving parent caring, God knows well our feeble frame;
Gladly all our burdens bearing, Still to countless years the same.
Alleluia! Alleluia! All within me, praise God’s name!
Angels, teach us adoration, you behold God face to face;
Sun and moon and all creation, dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace!
Confession
God who listens to intercession, you are not unmoved when your people rebel, but you are quick to relent from anger. You remember that you have made us, and we are yours. You see potential for good in us even when we are not following your path. Forgive us for the times we have acted in anger, ignorance, or pride. Thank you for your mercy and patience. Restore us to live as you intend, in love and wonder and praise. Amen.
Silence
Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart (Hymn 326)
Atkinson/Croly
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth, through all its pulses move;
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art,
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.
Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.
Forgiveness in Jesus Christ
Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

Change My Heart, O God
Espinosa
Refrain:
Change my heart, O God; make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God; may I be like you.
You are the Potter; I am the clay.
Mold me and make me; this is what I pray.

Response: There's a Wideness in God's Mercy
BEACH SPRING/The Sacred Harp, 1844
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in God’s justice, which is more than liberty.
There is no place where earth’s sorrows are more felt than up in heaven;
There is no place where earth’s failings have such kindly judgment given.
For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind;
And the heart of the eternal is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more faithful, we would gladly trust God’s Word;
And our lives reflect thanksgiving for the goodness of our Lord.
Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Stewardship

So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. -James 2:17
Sending: Help Us Accept Each Other (Hymn 358)
Potter/Kaan
Help us accept each other as Christ accepted us;
Teach us as sister, brother, each person to embrace.
Be present, Lord, among us and bring us to believe
We are ourselves accepted and meant to love and live.
Teach us, O Lord, Your lessons, as in our daily life
We struggle to be human and search for hope and faith.
Teach us to care for people, for all, not just for some,
To love them as we find them or as they may become.
Let Your acceptance change us, so that we may be moved
In living situations to do the truth in love;
To practice Your acceptance until we know by heart
The table of forgiveness and laughter’s healing art.
Lord, for today’s encounters with all who are in need,
Who hunger for acceptance, for righteousness and bread,
We need new eyes for seeing, new hands for holding on:
Renew us with Your Spirit; Lord, free us, make us one!
