Prelude: Come, Let Us Worship and Bow Down

Doherty, arr. Hayes

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 95]

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise with songs of praise!

Let us not harden our hearts and go astray, as those before us who tested God.

We are the sheep of God’s hand. Let us listen to his voice today!

Let us worship the LORD!

I Sing the Mighty Power (Hymn 288)

Watts/Gesangbuch der Herzogl

I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise;
That spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food;
God formed the creatures with a word and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eyes;
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the skies!

There's not a plant or flower below but makes Thy glories known;
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care,
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there.

Confession

God our Maker, you know us in all our needs, pleasures, and frailties. We are often frustrated by the limitations of living in bodies that age and fall ill, even as we appreciate the senses and intricacies of the bodies you have given us. Forgive us when we thirst for things that will never satisfy us. Forgive us when we do not treat our body as something that belongs to you, or as something that you will redeem. Show us the way to freedom, that we may be filled with your Spirit and not dominated by anything. Amen.

Come, Let Us Worship and Bow Down

Doherty

Come, let us worship and bow down,
Let us kneel before the Lord, our God, Our Maker. (repeat)

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture
And the sheep of His hand, just the sheep of His hand.

[Psalm 95:6-7]

Christ Be Beside Me

Quinn/Gaelic melody

Christ be beside me; Christ be before me;
Christ be behind me, King of my heart.
Christ be within me; Christ be below me;
Christ be above me, never to part.

Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand,
Christ all around me, shield in the strife.
Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting,
Christ in my rising, Light of my life.

Christ be in all hearts thinking about me;
Christ be on all tongues telling of me.
Christ be the vision in eyes that see me;
In hearts that hear me Christ ever be.

Sermon: Freedom with a Pulse

Scott Starbuck

Focus: Christian freedom is reshaped by belonging to God with our whole lives, including our bodies.

Response: Sacred the Body

Duck/Gibson

Sacred the body God has created, temple of Spirit that dwells deep inside.
Cherish each person; nurture relation. Treat flesh as holy, that love may abide.

Bodies are varied, made in all sizes, pale, full of color; both fragile and strong.
Holy the difference, gift of the Maker, so let us honor each story and song.

Holy of holies, God ever loving, make us your temples; indwell all we do.
May we be careful, tender and caring, so may our bodies give honor to you.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Stewardship

Rev. Pamela Starbuck

But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.” Jacob said, “No, please; if I find favor with you, then accept my present from my hand; for truly to see your face is like seeing the face of God—since you have received me with such favor.” -Genesis 33:9-10

Sending: Take My Life (Hymn 391)

Havergal/Malan

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing, always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.
