Prelude: On Eagle’s Wings
Joncas/Callahan
Welcome & Call to Worship
[Psalm 147]
Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God; for he is gracious.
The Lord lifts up the downtrodden; he gathers the outcasts.
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
Let us worship the LORD!
This is My Father’s World (Hymn 293)
Babcock/Bridges/Sheppard
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world: oh, let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done;
Jesus who died shall be satisfied, and earth and heaven be one.
O bless the Lord, my God, the Potentate of time;
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.
Confession
Merciful God, sometimes your healing comes when we least expect it, and sometimes we search for you in the dark and do not understand. Yet, we know that you love us even when we are broken. Forgive us when we are stingy with our time and cautious in giving care. Forgive us when we distance ourselves by blaming others for their afflictions. We want to be more like your Son, who took time to speak with and heal those he encountered. May your good news grow in our lives and in our communities, that we might reach out to others with your healing. Amen.

Hear My Prayer, O Lord
Debbie Owens
Hear my prayer, O Lord, from the ends of the earth, I cry.
Your peace will lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
(repeat)
For You have been my strength in times of trouble, a tower above my enemies;
And, Lord, I will abide with You forever in the shelter of Your wings.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, from the ends of the earth, I cry.
Your peace will lead me to the Rock that is higher than I,
The Rock that is higher than I.
[Psalm 61]

Sermon: The Healer
Rev. Debbie Cato
Focus: Jesus heals us in unexpected ways - not always the way we pray or the way we think we need healing.
Response: O Christ, the Healer (Hymn 380)
Green/Klug’s Geistliche Lieder
O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends.
How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends?
How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves!
Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves.
In conflicts that destroy our health we recognize the world’s disease;
Our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these?
Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Stewardship
You shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD. -Leviticus 19:18b
Sending: Here on Jesus Christ I Will Stand
Kenyan hymn
Refrain:
Here on Jesus Christ I will stand. He’s the solid rock of my life.
Here on Jesus Christ I will stand. He’s the solid rock of my life.
There’s no other place I can hide till the storm that rages subsides.
My voice cries to God from the flood, and I’m saved because of his blood.
(Refrain)
It is not the work of my hands that has washed away all my sins.
I’m redeemed, and all of my days, Jesus Christ will be my heart’s praise.
(Refrain)
When my days on this earth are done, and I stand at God’s holy throne,
My heart will not have any fear; in Christ’s righteousness I am here.
(Refrain)
