Prelude: Larghetto from Sonata in Bb Major

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 122]

We were glad when they said to us, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!”

Our feet are standing within your gates.

Pray for the peace of God’s church: “May they prosper who love you.

Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers.”

For the sake of our relatives and friends we will say, “Peace be within you.”

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, we will seek your good.

Let us worship the LORD!

Sing Praise to the Father

Clarkson/Doane

Sing praise to the Father, Creator and King,
Whose mercy has taught us a new song to sing;
Who made us, and loves us tho’ rebels and lost,
And planned our redemption at infinite cost.

Refrain:
Bless the Lord, bless the Lord, bless the Lord, O my soul,
For the grace that redeems for the love that makes whole;
O come and adore him, his glories proclaim,
And worship before him – the Lord is his name!

Sing praise to the Savior, Redeemer and Friend,
For grace past all telling, for love without end;
Who stripped off his glory, put on mortal sin,
And died in our stead, full atonement to win. (Refrain)

Sing praise to the Father, sing praise to the Son,
Sing praise to the Spirit, great God Three in One;
The God of salvation, of glory, of grace,
Who wrought our redemption – my soul, sing God’s praise! (Refrain)

Confession

Loving God, you welcome all who seek you. You invite yourself in where others hesitate or judge. We confess that we are not eager to receive those who have wronged us or those we perceive as working against us. Forgive us when we doubt your work in others’ lives or give up hope on opportunities for change and reconciliation. Help us accept others just as they are and choose to move toward one another with our words and actions. Open our minds and hearts to be the loving children you have called us to be. Amen.

Silence

Jesus Knows the Inmost Heart

Pashto hymn/arr. Weaver

Refrain:
Jesus knows the inmost heart: nothing can be hidden. (repeat)

Jesus knows our deepest fears, knows the pain of hidden tears.
By his words of love and peace every heart can find release. (refrain)

So our faith will be restored by the word of Christ our Lord;
For the warmth his love imparts melts the very hardest hearts. (refrain)

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination

How Blest Are Those (Psalm 32, Hymn 184)

Anderson/Memmingen ms., 17th cent.

How blest are those whose great sin has freely been forgiven.
Whose guilt is wholly covered before the sight of heaven.
Blest those to whom our Lord God will not impute their sin,
Whose guilt has been forgiven, whose heart is true again.

While I kept guilty silence, my strength was spent with grief.
Your hand was heavy on me; my life found no relief.
But when I made confession and hid no sin from You,
When I revealed my own guilt, You gave me life anew.

So let the godly seek You, when troubling times are near;
No storm or flood shall reach them, nor cause their hearts to fear.
In You, O Lord, I hide me, You save me from all ill,
And songs of Your salvation my heart with rapture fill.

Response: Jesus Walked That Lonesome Valley (Hymn 80)

American Spiritual

(Carollen will sing verse 1. Please join her to sing verses 2 & 3.)

Jesus walked this lonesome valley, He had to walk it by Himself;
O, nobody else could walk it for Him, He had to walk it by Himself.

We must walk this lonesome valley, we have to walk it by ourselves;
O, nobody else can walk it for us, we have to walk it by ourselves.

You must go and stand your trial, you have to stand it by yourself;
O, nobody else can stand it for you, you have to stand it by yourself.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Stewardship

Zak Cannard

From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. -Genesis 39:5

Sending: Amazing Grace (Hymn 280)

Newton/Virginia Harmony

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come;
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
