Prelude: Hosanna, Loud Hosanna

Wurtemberg 1784/arr. Langlois/Burkhardt

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 118, Luke 19:40]

Open to us the gates of righteousness, that we may enter and give thanks to the Lord.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.

If the children of God keep silent, the stones will cry out.

Let us worship the LORD!

All Glory, Laud, and Honor

Teschner/Theodulph of Orleans

All glory, laud and honor to Thee, Redeemer, King!
To whom the lips of children make loud hosannas ring.
Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David’s royal Son,
Who in the Lord’s name comest, the King and blessed One.

The people of the Hebrews with palms before Thee went;
Our praise and prayers and anthems before Thee we present.
To Thee, before Thy passion, they sang their hymns of praise;
To Thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.

All glory, laud and honor to Thee, Redeemer, King!
To whom the lips of children make loud hosannas ring.
Thou didst accept their praises; accept the prayers we bring.
Who in all good delightest, Thou good and gracious King!

Confession

God of heaven and earth, we give you thanks for sending Jesus Christ as our teacher. We are eager to praise you when you seem to be doing what we hope for. Forgive us when we do not listen or respond to your Word as soon as the way becomes difficult. Forgive us for the times we have denied you and denied our calling to serve one another. Thank you for continuing to act in love even when we act in fear, jealousy, or anger. Give us courage to stand with you through trials, and help us strengthen one another. Amen.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Hymn 276)

Runyan/Chisholm

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

And also with you.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Stewardship

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. -Luke 6:27-28

Sending: Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley (Hymn 80)

American spiritual

Jesus walked this lonesome valley, He had to walk it by Himself;
O, nobody else could walk it for Him, He had to walk it by Himself.

We must walk this lonesome valley, we have to walk it by ourselves;
O, nobody else can walk it for us, we have to walk it by ourselves.

You must go and stand your trial, you have to stand it by yourself;
O, nobody else can stand it for you, you have to stand it by yourself.
