“America! America! God shed His grace on thee...”

Calling Ourselves to Worship [Psalm 91:1-4] (self-directed)

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,

say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence;

he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge;

his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

Let us worship the LORD!

Prichard/Wesley

Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down,

Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, all Thy faithful mercies crown!

Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art;

Visit us with Thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all Thy life receive;

Suddenly return, and never, nevermore Thy temples leave.

Thee we would be always blessing, serve Thee as Thy hosts above;

Pray, and praise Thee without ceasing, glory in Thy perfect love.

Finish, then, Thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be;

Let us see Thy great salvation perfectly restored in Thee;

Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,

Till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.

God our shelter, we know you are with us. We also know that sooner or later, we all experience suffering. We are to pick up our cross and carry it.

Forgive us when our resolve to serve you weakens as our circumstances grow more difficult. We long to be yours, whatever happens. Help us know and trust you.

Restore and strengthen us by the mercy of Christ, that we may rise again in peace to serve your world. Amen.

We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord;

We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord;

And we pray that all unity may one day be restored.

Chorus:

And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;

Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand;

We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand;

And together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.

(Chorus)

We will work with each other; we will work side by side;

We will work with each other; we will work side by side;

And we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride.

(Chorus)

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come,

And all praise to Christ Jesus, God’s only Son,

And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.

(Chorus)

Calling Ourselves to Worship [Psalm 66:8-10, 20] (self-directed)

Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard,

who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip.

For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.

Blessed be God, because he has not rejected our prayer or removed his steadfast love from us.

Let us worship the LORD!

Robinson

Come, Thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;

Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of God’s unchanging love!

Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’m come;

And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;

He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!

Let that grace now, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee:

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;

Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

O God, in whom we live and move and have our being, we do not always look to or keep your commandments; we fail to love you and one another.

We are tired of living so closely with just a few people, or tired of living alone. We are quick to find fault with one another. With your gentleness, forgive us.

O love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee:

I give Thee back the life I owe, that in Thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be.

O light that follows all my way, I yield my flickering torch to Thee;

My heart restores its borrowed ray, that in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be.

O joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee;

I trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be.

To bear the heavy cross for my soul, for my soul,

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,

When I was sinking down, sinking down,

When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,

Christ laid aside his crown for my soul,

Christ laid aside his crown for my soul!

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing;

To God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM,

While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;

While millions join the theme, I will sing!

Almighty and eternal God, our hearts are troubled. We feel weighed down by the concerns of the world; COVID-19 has exposed a lot of brokenness in our country. As much as we long to put this behind us and get back to normal, we also know that change is needed.

We miss being able to help or serve more directly. Forgive us for relying on our own efforts, rather than trusting in your Word, and your grace.

Have mercy on us when we are too weighed down with our own troubles to reach out in love. Grant us faith to trust and praise you at all times, and help us find ways to bear one another’s burdens and share in one another’s joys and sorrows. Amen.

We come to you for healing, Lord, of body, mind, and soul,

As once you walked through ancient streets and reached toward those in pain,

we know you come among us still with power to heal again.

You touch us through physicians’ skill, through nurses’ gifts of care,

and through the love of faithful friends who lift our lives in prayer.

Through nights of pain and wakefulness, through days when strength runs low,

grant us your gift of patience, Lord, your calming peace to know.

We come to you, O loving Lord, in our distress and pain,

in trust that through our nights and days your grace will heal, sustain.

Calling Ourselves to Worship [Psalm  116] (self-directed)

We love the LORD, because he has heard our voice and our supplications.

Because he inclined his ear to us, we will call on him as long as we live.

The snares of death encompassed us; we suffered distress and anguish.

Then we called on the name of the LORD: “O Lord, we pray, save our lives!”

Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.

Let us worship the LORD!

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Nought be all else to me, save that Thou art.

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High King of Heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Confession

God who walks with us, we confess that we do not always recognize your presence. We are confused, fearful, and grieving losses large and small. Looking at events through the wrong pattern, we watch our hopes fall short.

Forgive us for running away from the empty and broken places in our lives and within the world. Have mercy on us when we feel overwhelmed, and help us be gentle with ourselves and with one another.

In your mercy, give us courage to forgive, and help us discover the possibilities within our current limitations. Speak to our clouded minds, that we may see you with new eyes and share your peace with others. Amen.

Finding Jesus in Covid-19

Focus:   Jesus shows that suffering and pain have great power, but only if we allow our eyes to be opened through his presence.

Open my eyes, that I may see

Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;

Place in my hands the wonderful key

That shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee,

Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear

Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;

And while the wave notes fall on my ear,

Everything false will disappear.

Silently now I wait for Thee,

Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear

Gladly the warm truth everywhere;

Open my heart, and let me prepare

Love with Thy children thus to share.

Silently now I wait for Thee,

Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Timothy James Meaney

My friends may you grow in grace

And in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior

My friends may you grow in grace

And in the knowledge of Jesus Christ

To God be the glory

Now and forever

Now and forever amen

To God be the glory

Now and forever

Now and forever amen.

I pray that tonight if we learn from one another

May we glorify Him

And if the Lord should bring us back together

May we be in His arms 'till then.

To God be the glory

Now and forever

Now and forever amen

to God be the glory

Now and forever

Now and forever amen. (repeat)
